Here’s a great #eveningstretch to try out. It starts out in a yoga pose, the puppy pose (slightly modified) which is a great stretching position to be in as it stretches the shoulders and lats, as well as the spine from the neck to low back.

Yoga poses are great for reducing stress and anxiety and calming the body and mind — which is why it’s so great to do while winding down at the end of the day. I’ve added some shoulder mobility to work on as it adds so much benefit to both shoulders at the same time.

Do this one after shoulder or back day 💪🏻
__
1️⃣ Begin in “puppy pose” with your palms facing upward, externally rotating the shoulders. My hips are slightly down farther than a traditional puppy pose, however do what feels right to your body. 
2️⃣ Leading with your pinky, slowly bring one arm back and up towards the ceiling while simultaneously leaning in the opposite arm forcing a nice shoulder and lat stretch. 🙌🏼
3️⃣ Continue to swoop the arm around and forward allowing the shoulder to gradually rotate back to start position.

Working with Michael here to relearn the deadlift. Even though Michael was lifting incredibly heavy weight and doing it with pretty good form 
He was still shifting the way forward and dominating with his quads and his lower back

You can see in the slow motion video the start is absolutely perfect wouldn't change a thing. 
As the buyer gets towards his knees you can see his knees shift under the bar and he attempts to stand up in more of a squat motion and pull through the lower back

He had been deadlifting like this for a number of years and unfortunately was the way that he was taught which has led to extreme sij pain and sometimes the inability to move after lifting heavy weights

After 2 sessions fixing his squat and deadlift technique the feedback I got from Michael was that his hamstrings were actually sore for the first time in three years, with no back pain

A true testament to the fact that it doesn't matter how much weight you lift it just matters if you are doing it correctly and feeling the correct muscles engage throughout the movement

❤️ Before moving, slow down, close your eyes, take a few deep breathes and connect with your body. Feel into your body and let your body lead you through the movements.⠀

1️⃣ Lay flat on stomach, with wrists by ribs, palms flat on ground, forehead on ground, legs straight back behind you. ⠀
2️⃣ IMPORTANT: Hug elbows into the midline of your body to activate back muscles. ⠀
3️⃣ Pull belly in to spine ⠀
4️⃣ Reach energetically through the crown of your head to lengthen your entire back side ⠀
5️⃣ Inhale, then exhale and draw shoulders down your back and out of your ears as you lift the crown of your head up. ⠀
6️⃣ Do the different variations i show here (hands on floor, hands floating, then cactus arms), hold for 3-5 breathes in each pose, do 1-3 rounds of each pose.⠀
7️⃣ Then watch this video all the way through to learn how TO NOT do this exercise.⠀

Spinal mobility in the thoracic spine is important for posture and to avoid tightness in the upper body. We want to be able to reach above our heads without our core disengaging, and arching our lower back.

Hip mobility is important to assist in range of motion in the lower body throughout the day as our hip flexors become super tight from sitting all day!😕

Core strength is crucial for effective movement in everyday life. Without any core strength, stability in our deep tissues we will get worse and feel worse day by day. Get your full body tension planks in, side plank, stir the pot, ab rollouts, pallof presses and more!🙌🏻💪🏼

GLUTES!!!!!! If you do not have active strong working glutes daily this needs to be a major focus of yours. A lot of the time with lower back pain the issue is either above or below, and a lot of the time it’s your weak gluteus Maximus that’s holding you (with a sore) back. Work in your squats, deadlifts, hip thrusts, unilateral work, lunges, glute Bridges and more!🔥💪🏼

Good afternoon everyone! 
This may be the last video for the golf series as I am debating on one more.

The first video is the strengthening up your abs especially in a twisting motion. Muscles run different directions and we tend to focus on flexion and extension but not a twist. Rotation of the midsection along with power used in the hips to drive the ball are the most important. 
Cable rotation using a triceps rope is the equipment used for this exercise. Get into your golf stance with shoulder width stance along with hand position of shoulder's width as you begin to twist the torso that you mimick the golf swing by pivoting the back foot. Lighter weight, 15 reps for 2-3 sets per side. Other rotational exercises can be done too just ask.

The second video is working the low back along with some stretching for the core.
A bridge is VIP so incorporate this exercise into your workouts. Lay on your back with feet close to the back side and shoulder width. Moving the hip up and flexing the glutes to feel in the low back. The exercise can be made harder by having the feet and knees together with feet close to your butt as you move the hips up as an example. 2-3 sets of 15 reps
The stretches are good for those who sit but also sports like golf.

When was the last time you felt pain or discomfort in your low back? For most people it probably wasn’t long ago.

Have you ever thought about this... your lumbar spine (low back) has about 12-15 degrees of rotational capability. Meanwhile, the skeletal structure below your low back, the hips, has nutty amounts of rotational capability (that’s why your hips don’t lie 💃), and the skeletal structure above, your thoracic spine (mid back), has about 30-35 degrees of rotation. So your little low back is simply sandwiched in the middle of two twisty friends. Fast and/or weighted rotation with improper core engagement is often what causes low back issues, but mobilizing the low back and strengthening our core can help to prevent these issues.

The “Bird Dog” is a great exercise for abdominal stabilization and individuals with low back pain. However, often times patients have a difficult time extending from the hip using the glut muscles, and end up arching their low back and getting a lot of movement in the pelvis. Try this progression to learn to stabilize prior to moving into a full Bird Dog!

1) Begin in quadruped position (on hands and knees) with spine in a neutral position, maintain abdominal brace and lift one arm over head, then alternate arms.
2) Begin in the same position with abdominal muscles braced, but extend one leg by squeezing the glut muscle. Focus on keeping the hips and pelvis even, and the low back stable (no arching!).
3) Begin in the same position with abdominal muscles braced, complete full “Bird Dog”, extending opposite arm and leg together.

If you aren’t sure if you are keeping your back and pelvis stable, try placing a small ball (such as a tennis ball) in the middle of your low back. If the ball rolls off as you move your arm or leg, there is too much movement through the low back and pelvis!
